Wimbledon 2022: Novak Djokovic V.S. Nick Kyrgios
Novak Djokovic is advancing to his 8th Wimbledon final, where he will face Nick Kyrgios.
Nick Kyrgios is Killing it!
Kyrgios has won 6 ATP Tour singles titles, including the 2019 Washington Open, and reached 10 finals including the 2017 Cincinnati Masters.
In doubles, Kyrgios has a career-high ranking of world No. 29, as of March 21, 2022, after winning a major doubles title at the 2022 Australian Open.
He reached the semifinals of the Miami Open, both times partnering with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Kyrgios was born in Canberra, Australia, to a father of Greek origin and a Malaysian mother and is a resident of Sydney, Australia, and Nassau, Bahamas.
Djokovic Has an Intimidating Record…
The Serbian tennis player is currently ranked No. 3 in the world in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
Djokovic has been ranked world No. 1 for a record total of 373 weeks and has finished as the year-end No. 1 a record seven times.
Djokovic was born and raised in Serbia and currently resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Djokovic has won 20 Grand Slam men’s singles titles, including a record nine Australian Open titles, and has won 87 ATP singles titles, including 38 Masters events.
After dropping the first set and seeming frustrated with his performance, Djokovic took the next two sets and a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
Norrie fought back, getting within one game of the 20-time Grand Slam champion before ultimately losing 6-4.
“I didn’t start off well. He was the better player for the first set…It’s never easy walking out on the court.”
“You have a lot of pressure and expectations from yourself and, of course, from others as well,” said Djokovic in his post-match interview on Centre Court.
Kyrgios is competing in his first Grand Slam final and expressed Friday that he’s feeling quite nervous in preparation for Sunday’s game.
“I probably got an hour’s sleep just with everything, like the excitement. I had so much anxiety. I was already feeling so nervous, and I don’t feel nervous usually,” said Kyrgios.
Kyrgios is anticipating Djokovic’s experience will play a role in the upcoming match.
Kyrgios reflected on the difference in experience between the two saying, “That’s where Djokovic has the advantage from the get-go. He can draw from experience. He’s done it so many more times. He knows the emotions he’s going to be feeling. I don’t know that “I don’t know anything like that, so … It was just all running through my head, every little thought, and I just slept really bad.”
