Avi Silverberg is the head coach for the Canadian Powerlifting Team. Why is that interesting? Well, because he just set the Alberta women’s record in the bench press, exceeding the old record by nearly 100 pounds.

And if this isn’t confusing enough – consider that the previous record holder is a trans athlete named Anne Andres, who was there watching Big Avi crush her old record.

Things are weird in the powerlifting world in Canada — they allow people to register and compete under their “gender identity and expression, rather than their sex or gender.”  They are so in on their woke policy that they promised “no consequences” for anyone that does so. They don’t require hormonal therapy or surgery; check the box for the sex you identify with, grab some metal, and start pumping.

No official word if Silverberg was mocking the rules or if, in fact, he identified as a woman that day.  Regardless, he’s really strong and will hold the record for a while.

Things are getting heated amongst the former and current record holders. Andres went off in a series of video messages, calling Silvergerg a “coward and a bigot with malicious intentions.”

And Andres also posted a video saying this isn’t anything new — he has identified as a female for 20 years.

“I got surgery — I can prove without any doubt whatsoever that I have gone through every step, which means whatever governing body decides to make decisions, I will pass that test. I actually care about women in sport because I AM a woman in sport.”
