Hopefully, nobody in Italy has gotten addicted to ChatGPT because Italians have decided to block the AI chatbot for the time being — as the Italian government ascertains what OpenAI is doing with all the data they collect.

A breach at ChatGPT on March 20 got the attention of Italy’s data protection agency, and they instituted a pass while they investigate.

Here’s part of a statement from the agency.

“There appears to be no legal basis underpinning the massive collection and processing of personal data in order to ‘train’ the algorithms on which the platform relies.”

Another major beef Italian authorities have with ChatGPT is the fact that there are no age limits — which they say exposes children to receive inappropriate responses.

The Italians have given OpenAI 20 days to get back to them on what they will do to align with Italy’s data rules.

There are pockets of concern popping up over ChatGPT — in large part because of how fast it sprung onto the scene and how popular it has become.

Earlier this month, OpenAI gave the world a look at their new and improved version called GPT-4. If you haven’t heard, that new version passed a simulated law school bar exam.

Elon Musk headed up a group of tech leaders calling for a six-month halt in the development of artificial intelligence because of “profound risks to society and humanity.”
