When does seven bucks compare well with billions of dollars?
Action star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is planning to provide the answer, as his Seven Bucks Production is teamed up with Amazon’s Jeff Bezos (Amazon Studios) on a film project targeted for a 2023 release in theaters.
The two referenced a “big announcement” via Instagram on Sunday night – a photo of the two, arms around each other, with promotional words for the project.
“Exciting week coming up as our @amazonstudios & @sevenbucksprod come together for a big announcement to deliver fun to families around the world,” Johnson wrote. “Shared passions and always putting in the hard work with our own two hands. I look forward to this one, brother.”
The Rock is not one to let any promo possibility slip away, either. He added, “Teremana is on the way,” a reference to his tequila company. He also wore blue Amazon polo for the photo.
Johnson led the Forbes list of the highest paid actors — he made almost $90 million last year – but his assets are a bit short of Bezos’ world-leading $200 billion.
“One of us graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton and the other once asked his criminal law professor if he could ‘slip me a few answers’ so he could guarantee an A on his midterm exam,” Johnson wrote.
The film, “Red One,” will be made in 2022 and released in November or December 2023, according to Deadline.
So what’s it about? One clue is clear: Chris Morgan, who has written seven of the nine Fast and Furious films, is on board to write and produce.
Amazon won the project, emerging from a competitive bidding war.
Seven Bucks’ credits include “Hobbs & Shaw,” “Skyscraper,” “Jungle Cruise” and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”
