There’s a race to become the world’s first trillionaire, and discovering rare minerals underneath the ice of Greenland might give someone a decided advantage.

Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Michael Bloomberg are some billionaires hoping that under the surface of Greenland’s Diski Oksland and Nuussuaq Peninsula are the minerals needed to power electric cars by the millions.

The ice has been melting in Greenland, and there’s a land rush of sophisticated miners trying to pluck nickel and cobalt from the surface buried under an ice cap for centuries.

Kabloid Metals is the company that the billionaires mentioned above are investors in, according to a CNN story. Greenland’s minerals and precious metals are needed to build massive batteries to store renewable energy, so it’s understandable that savvy and rich investors want to be involved.

It’s a full-on production, with geologists, geophysicists, mechanics, pilots, cooks, and whoever else is needed to keep the operation going. The CNN story referenced that flying drones and helicopters with transmitters measure the electromagnetic field of the subsurface, and artificial intelligence is used to process the data, so the engineers know exactly where to start drilling.

There appears to be a treasure trove of minerals, including copper, coal, gold, and zinc.  Let’s put it this way; this could be a game changer for the Greenland government, and as long as things are done in a responsible, sustainable, and economically viable way, they are all in.
