If Tom Brady changed hair gels, it would give Adam Shelter a minor heart attack, and ESPN would do a 10-part documentary on it.

TB is kind of a big deal, so when he does something, anything, it makes major news.

Brady pulled a baller move this week by checking out of training camp with the Tampa Bay Bucs and leaving for a two-week vacation.  He’ll come back after the Bucs play their second preseason game.

It’s not a huge deal since he wouldn’t have taken a snap in either of the first two practice contests, but NFL players never, I repeat, never do something like this.  So head coach Todd Bowles had to tell the media what was up.

“Tom has been excused today. He’ll be taking—he’ll be back somewhere around after Tennessee. He’s going to deal with some personal things.”

There doesn’t appear to be a smoking gun here. Brady, of course, retired from the NFL earlier this year and then un-retired six weeks later, so in that span, he may have made a promise to his family that he has to uphold.

Here’s more from the relatively bland and dull head coach Bowles.

“We trust him. We talked about it. It was scheduled way before training camp and he will not be here until after Tennessee.”

Wow, nice to hear that you “trust” the greatest winner in the history of the NFL, coach Bowles.  You realize you have the job you have because of Brady, and he could likely fire you if he wanted, so maybe lighten up a bit on the trust talk.  The bigger question is can Brady trust you to put him in a position to win an eighth Super Bowl?”
