Taylor Swift has come a long way since her banjo-playing teenage years.  She has turned into a  powerhouse. A one-of-one superstar with no peers at the current time.  She’s wrapping up six straight nights of sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and after a short break, she’ll dazzle Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis.  Then she will tour the world.

It’s staggering to see the devotion she has earned from her self-proclaimed legion of fans called “Swifties,” and what is even more incredible is how she’s turning some of them into entrepreneurs. How? Well, fans are taking advantage of the hype of her Eras Tour by making and selling friend bracelets on Etsy.  And some of those Swiftties are making a lot of money doing it. CNN Business reports that the biggest earners make thousands of dollars selling them.

A 46-year-old woman in Oklahoma named Jamie Thompkins said she sold over 5,000 bracelets and racked in over $16k in sales. “There were weeks that making bracelets paid more than my full-time job.”  She’s decided to ditch her job and do the side hustle full-time.

Another group of four fans have earned $10,000 since May.  A woman in Nashville made enough to pay off the $5,500 loan she took to buy tickets to the show.

As for the genesis of the friendship bracelets with Taylor and her Swifties, it goes back to the lyrics of a song called “You’re on Your Own, Kid” on her “Midnights” album that she released in 2022.  In it, Taylor Swift sings about connecting with others on a shared experience by making friendship bracelets.  “Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned / Everything you lose is a step you take / So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it / You’ve got no reason to be afraid.”

When you consider that the Eras Tour will generate about $5 billion in total consumer spending on the US portion of the tour, are you surprised Swifties all over the country will do whatever their hero asks them to?
