Mark Zuckerberg is so obsessed with controlling the metaverse that he changed the name of Facebook to Meta.  He’s also earmarked $10 billion to spend the next year to try to dominate the space, but his competitors aren’t sitting around watching him.  On Tuesday, Sony showed off their new PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset to compete with the Meta Quest 2 and will play the games users already have on their PlayStation consoles.

Sony hasn’t announced what the price will be.  The Meta Quest 2 currently sells for $299.

Looks-wise, Sony’s version is very similar to Meta Quest 2, and users will get a headset and two controllers.

Here’s what Sony’s Hideaki Nishino said in a press release. “Our goal is to create a headset that will not only become an attractive part of your living room decor but will also keep you immersed in your game world, to the point where you almost forget you are using a headset or controller.”

The VR headset for Sony requires a PlayStation to run it. It has a couple of cool features on it, including a lens adjustment dial to match the lens distance between the eyes of the user to ensure an optimal view.  It’s also slimmer than the earlier version.
