The Patriots will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 10. The team will open the season with a “Thank You Tom” game, where fans will rejoice in Brady’s commemorative return to Foxboro, Massachusetts.
“The NFL is over a century old, and 20 percent of those years of the NFL the greatest player in the history of the game played right here in Foxboro, and I’m happy to tell you and your audience that I invited him back to come here and be with us at the opening game and let the fans in New England thank him for the great service he gave us for over 20 years,” Kraft said.
After 23 seasons in the NFL, Brady announced on February 1 that he was “retiring for good.” Six of his record seven Super Bowl victories were with New England, where he spent two decades.
One day after Brady announced his retirement, Kraft proposed that the quarterback sign a one-day contract and formally retire as a Patriot, however, that has not yet come to fruition. While he may have momentarily taken his talents to the Buccaneers, Tom Brady will forever be a Patriot in the eyes of his New England fans.
