Michael Jordan is famous for his impressive moves, but taking off from the free thrown line to throw down a dunk, or hitting a game-winner in the NBA Finals after a killer cross over didn’t save any lives.
What he did Monday will. MJ announced he will donate $10 million to Novant Health, and the money will be used to open a couple new health clinics in New Hanover, North Carolina, not far from where he grew up in Wilmington.
He’s hooked up with Novant in the past, as they created the Michael Jordan Family Clinics in Charlotte, where patients go for primary care and it’s been an especially valuable facility since the coronavirus pandemic struck.
Michael summed up his reason for making this donation. “Everyone should have access to quality health care, no matter where they live, or whether or not they have insurance,” Jordan said in a statement. “Wilmington holds a special place in my heart, and it’s truly gratifying to be able to give back to the community that supported me throughout my life.”
One way the clinics in Charlotte have made a difference is by administering over 1,00 COVID-19 vaccinations.
All told, the Hall of Fame and living legend has donated $17 million to Novant.
