Netflix is finally getting cheaper! But here’s the catch – You have to watch ads.

It’s almost like regular TV!

Netflix announced on Thursday the launch date and pricing for its upcoming ad-supported subscription option.

Times are tough, and some companies are taking notes.

Cheaper Netflix is better than no Netflix.

In an effort to reach more consumers and those who are price-conscious, Netflix is launching an ad-supported plan, called “Basic with Ads.”
The option will be available in the U.S. and 11 other countries starting November 3rd, according to a press release.
The cost will be $6.99 per month with ads for those living in the United States.

Countries Netflix + Ads will be available in:

The “Basic with Ads” plan will be available in additional countries “over time,” according to Netflix.

  1. Australia
  2. Brazil
  3. Canada
  4. France
  5. Germany
  6. Italy
  7. Japan
  8. Korea
  9. Mexico
  10. Spain
  11. United Kingdom

The “Basic with Ads” Plan will have 4-5 minutes of advertisements per hour.

Under the “Basic with Ads” plan, viewers will be forced to watch four to five minutes of ads per hour on average, with the ads being 15 or 30 seconds long each, according to Netflix.
The advertisements will play before and during every show or movie the viewer is watching.

Imagine watching Squid Game with ads.

“Squid Game” is Netflix’s most streamed program of all time, with over 1.65 billion streaming hours.

⚠️ WARNING: This plan is a MAJOR downgrade!

For those who love to watch shows and movies while flying or traveling, this is not the plan for you.
Users with this plan will not be able to download movies and shows to watch offline or in instances without access to wifi.
People with the “Basic with Ads” subscription will also be unable to watch certain movies and shows “due to licensing restrictions.” Netflix says they are actively “working on” the issue.
For those who were hoping they’d be getting everything plus the ads, sorry, this is kind of a major downgrade.
The streaming platform first announced it had plans to offer a less expensive, ad-supported version earlier this year after reporting declining growth. In July 2022, Netflix announced it would be partnering with Microsoft on advertising technology and sales.

Advertisers will have access to “broad targeting capabilities” by country and genre and be able to keep their ads from playing with content “that might be inconsistent with their brand,” according to Netflix’s release.
