Dolly Parton is a whole lot of country, and not even a little bit rock & roll, so because of that, she feels she doesn’t belong in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The music legend and pop culture icon was chosen to be inducted into the Cleveland shrine for music legends, but she respectfully told them to remove her from nomination.

Here’s what Dolly tweeted to explain why she said “thanks but no thanks.”

“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”

The 76-year old was nominated for the hall last month, and there’s no plan in place on who would replace her in the subsequent induction. It has to be a bit of a humbling blow for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to be rejected like that.  You can’t blame Dolly for saying no, especially when you see who some of the other nominees were, all non-rock & rollers.  Rage Against the Machine, New York Dolls, Kate Bush, and A Tribe Called Quest were all nominees that could go in this fall.

Dolly said someday if she puts out a true rock album, she’d be delighted to be included.  She has had quite a career of cranking out hits, including crossover songs like “Jolene,” “9 to 5.” And “I Will Always Love You,” that has made her millions.  Especially “I Will Always Love You,” which Elvis attempted to buy for years, but Dolly would never sell him the rights, instead raking in tens of millions of dollars every time it was sold.
