Bob Iger ran Disney during its most profitable era ever, so now that he’s officially done, he’s got nothing but time and money, and he’s putting a lot of both into a new venture smack dab in the middle of the metaverse.

The 3D avatar start-up company Genies announced Iger is joining their board and investing a sizable amount of cash to help take it next level.  The company launched in 2017 and is run by a 29-year old CEO named Akash Nigam, who’s less than half the age of his iconic new board member. The company has a mobile app that allows users to create their own custom digital avatars.  It’s a very cool concept; the avatars are 3D cartoon versions of themselves that people can use for their social media profiles and move around in the meters.

Here’s a comment from Iger about his big move.

“I’ve always been drawn to the intersection between technology and art, and Genies provides unique and compelling opportunities to harness the power of that combination to enable new forms of creativity, expression, and communication.”

According to Genies, their goal is to “create a universal avatar system that can be used across an open metaverse.”

Genie is a hit with some of the biggest pop stars, including J-Lo, Rihanna, and Lil Has X.
