It’s clear Vladimir Putin made some severe miscalculations regarding Ukraine’s ability or desire to defend themselves from their country being invaded back in late February by the Russian military.

The battle goes on, and on a regular basis, we find out how savvy the Ukraine military is, especially when they get help from citizens looking to do what they can to fight for their country.

According to a report in the Financial Times, Ukrainian hackers set up a genius ploy that worked to perfection.  They set up fake accounts of attractive women to trick Russian soldiers into sending them photos of themselves, which revealed their locations.  The hackers then passed that info to the Ukraine military.

The mastermind is 30-year-old Nikita Knysh, who was inspired to use his IT skills since the war began. He then enlisted his hacker pals, nicknamed the group “Hackyyourmom,” and they now number 30 strong.

The hackers play on the Russian soldier’s arrogance, earning their trust to get photos sent over, revealing their operational base.  Last week Ukraine forces ambushed a Russian military base near Melitopol.

The cyber war is intense, with both sides enlisting hackers to launch attacks.

Here’s what Knysh told the Financial Times.

“My first thought was — I am effective, I can help my country. Then, I realized, I want more of this — I want to find more bases, again and again.”
