One year ago Tuesday, Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven other lives were cut short.
The world stood still as the unbelievable news began to circulate that the helicopter Kobe and there others were in had crashed into the mountains above Malibu into a hillside in Calabasas, California.
The reports were true, and soon Los Angeles, Southern California, Lakers fans, the sports world and people across the globe who were touched or inspired by Bryant paid tributes to the fallen icon that lasted for weeks.
Hundreds of murals have popped up all over L.A. The Staples Center served as a centralized grieving hub for hundreds of thousands of fans that came by to pay respects to their hero.
On social media Tuesday, people were taking time out of their day to once again reflect on maybe the most shocking, painful and untimely deaths of a beloved superstar

I can’t believe it’s been one year since we experienced the tragic loss of my brother, my friend, Kobe Bryant. It still doesn’t feel real.
