The moment King Charles III has waited a long time for is finally arriving. He will be officially crowned the head of the British monarch in May, and the logo that was designed to celebrate the big occasion on May 6th was designed by someone who knows a thing or two about creating cool things; Jony Ive. The former Apple designer who is responsible for the look of the original iPhone.

The blue and red design won’t be as iconic as revolutionizing how most of the world communicates, but it’s not a bad thing to list on a resume. Here’s part of what Ive said about the honor in an official statement.

“It is such an honor to be able to contribute to this remarkable national occasion, and our team is so very proud of this work. The design was inspired by King Charles’ love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world.”

The flashy logo depicts the flora of the four nations that make up the United Kingdom. It’s all in the shape of St. Edward’s Crown — which is what the new king will be crowned with during his coronation at Westminster Abbey.

Ive and his team have worked with Charles before — he and his team worked on the seal of the Terra Carta. That is an initiative the future king launched to recognize private-sector companies championing sustainability.

Here’s more from Ive regarding the vibrant optimism that marks spring and the new king being crowned.

“The emblem speaks to the happy optimism of spring and celebrates the beginning of this new Carolean era for the United Kingdom. The gentle modesty of these natural forms combine to define an emblem that acknowledges both the joyful and profound importance of this occasion.”

Ive bounced from Apple four years ago. He seems to be doing okay.
