There are certain qualities you should look for in potential candidates while hiring…

While a skillset is an absolute must, it shouldn’t be your core focus while hiring employees for your business.

If you hope to find employees that will grow with your business and be committed to your brand’s mission and vision, the qualities a person possesses are much more important than their skillsets.

While skills matter, they can always be taught… as long as they have the right traits and mindset.

You’re going to have to train your employees anyway…

Every business operates completely differently.

Your expectations will be entirely different than those of the company your potential candidates will be coming from.

Just because a potential candidate says they are “good” at whatever it is they do, it doesn’t mean they have the right attitude or mindset to achieve the success you wish to achieve as a business.

To find great additions to your team, focus more on the qualities of a person, rather than the skills they claim to have.

A college degree doesn’t signify much these days…

(Except a load of debt.)

Most students admit that they don’t learn much in college, which means their degree is practically worthless in value to business owners and corporations.

More and more companies are starting to emit the “college degree” requirement.

Google, Tesla, IBM, Meta (Facebook), Netflix, and Apple are amongst the many companies that are setting precedence for the future workforce.

5 Most Important Qualities to Look for When Hiring:

Find out how you can determine whether your potential candidates actually possess “said” qualities, and aren’t just saying what you want to hear…

1. Passion

Passion is at the core of success.

People who are passionate live and breathe all that they do. Passionate people don’t waste their time on matters that don’t matter to them. They put their time and efforts into whatever it is that sets their soul on fire.

Passionate people move fast.

They are eagerly excited to get to work and are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their biggest hopes and dreams.

Even on days off, a truly passionate person will continue to do the work that speaks to their hearts so immensely, because they genuinely love what they do.

If you come across a passionate person while interviewing potential candidates, it would be a mistake to not bring them onto your team.

Businesses should look for people who are as passionate because once these people get “their skin in the game,” they will expedite the path to achieving your company’s greatest vision.

2. Pride

Believe it or not, pride isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

People who take pride in themselves and their work will do whatever they need to do to make sure everything is to the highest expectations.

A prideful person isn’t necessarily arrogant, they just have very high expectations of themselves and others.

Their definition of “excellence” is usually much more superior than someone who isn’t prideful.

Find employees who have the highest expectations of themselves and others.

Do you want to be good or the BEST?

While interviewing, gain a clear understanding of what a candidate’s definition of “great” is and whether or not it matches your definition of “great.”

We all have different ideas of what exceptional work looks like. “Great” to one is “below-average” to another.

You don’t want employees who are carefree, sloppy, or lazy.

Someone who is prideful will make sure that their work is as perfect as possible because they understand that it is a reflection of themselves.

3. Ambition

If they aren’t ambitious, there is a cap to their growth AND your business ‘ growth.

When hiring, look for driven, ambitious candidates. You want an individual who doesn’t have limitations on how far they can go, because they will likely apply their same ‘philosophy’ to your company.

Many people have dreams…

Few actually pursue them and accomplish everything they have their hearts and souls set on.

Someone who is ambitious shows a strong desire and determination to succeed.

To determine whether or not a potential candidate is ambitious, find out what their goals are (or have been in the past) and whether or not they have taken action to pursue their goals.

4. A Strong Desire to Learn

Don’t look for someone who has a “willingness,” to learn, as many might suggest.

Rather, look for someone who is passionately interested and engaged in learning.

Someone who has a strong desire to learn is limitless in their potential.

Those who seek knowledge will likely be successful in life.

To determine whether or not a potential candidate has a strong desire to learn, ask them questions about various topics and see if they have strong views that they can support with facts.

Ask them about various topics such as the economy, entertainment, education, politics, travel, and culture.

Find out if the potential candidate has traveled in their lifetime…

Those who have seen other parts of the world tend to be more aware of “how the world works” and possess a greater understanding of different people.

They will likely have better communication skills, which will benefit your business tremendously.

5. Open-Minded

Those who are open-minded will be more likely to be innovative, which is a key component to success.

Being open-minded means welcoming new ideas, arguments, and information that you typically do not align with. It’s so important to be able to step out of your comfort zone and consider other ideas and perspectives, especially in business.

Open-mindedness enables people to think critically, rationally, and divergently.

Those who are open-minded are more likely to come up with very unique ideas that can help your business be a success.

Whether this be the next amazing product or service for your company to brainstorming a marketing campaign, those who are open-minded will likely lead the way with innovative concepts.
