The Trump administration is drafting a plan, championed by VP JD Vance, to pay married couples with a stay-at-home parent roughly $9,000 per child a year to raise their kids at home. The catch: it’s only for married couples where one spouse works at least 35 hours a week, unmarried couples and single non-working parents wouldn’t qualify. The money would come from redirecting an existing Clinton-era child care fund, and critics (including some conservatives) warn it could pull support away from working families.
