The world population is projected to reach 8.09 billion on January 1, 2025, following an increase of over 71 million people in 2024, according to US Census Bureau estimates.

This 0.9% increase marks a slight slowdown from 2023, when the population grew by 75 million.

India remains the most populated country with approximately 1.41 billion people, followed by China.

The United States saw a population increase of 2.6 million in 2024, reaching 341 million by New Year’s Day, with significant contributions from births and international migration.

Globally, an average of 4.2 births and 2.0 deaths are expected every second in January 2025.

The United Nations estimated a higher global population figure of 8.2 billion as of July 2024.
