A woman demanded reparations at a Target checkout line in Ohio to foot the bill for her $1,000 shopping spree. According to the police report, 37 year-old Karen Ivery told the cashier she needed to speak with a manager regarding reparations and her Target bill. The scene escalated when Ivery started moving “aggressively” toward the manager while ordering reparations, as well as speaking of the manager’s “privileged life.”

When Zach Cotter, the store’s loss prevention officer, asked the enraged customer to calm down and leave the premises, Ivery proceeded to scream and follow Cotter to his office. The security officer attempted to close the office door behind him as the angry shopper forced her way in. According to the store footage, Cotter landed a punch squarely on Ivery’s face, causing her to fall to the floor.

Police examined the store office footage and found that Ivery was the “aggressor” and placed her under arrest.

Police bodycam footage from the altercation exhibited the customer likening her scenario to Rosa Parks, explaining to officers she was beckoning the store manager “so we could have a larger conversation about how money works, and how the provision works, and how it’s been working in our community in a very wrong way.”

Ivery was ultimately penalized with a day in jail and fined $110 for disorderly conduct.
