There aren’t many things you can get Republicans and Democrats to agree to, but one is how TikTok data is accessible to the Chinese Communist Party. Yeah, that’s a problem, considering they are our enemy, and the CEO of TikTok is trying to appeal to the users of his app in America to do something, so it doesn’t get banned.

Shou Zi Chew had a message for the 150 million users here in the U.S., and Thursday, he is set to testify in front of members of Congress.

“I’m super excited to announce that more than 150 million Americans are on TikTok. This includes more than 5 million businesses that use TikTok to reach customers.”

Not very subtle. He then made a point of saying that 7,000 TikTok employees in the United States might be out of work if the app is banned here like many want it to be.

“Some politicians have started talking about banning TikTok. Now, this could take TikTok away from all 150 million of you. I’ll be testifying before Congress later this week to share all that we’re doing to protect Americans using the app and deliver on our mission to inspire creativity and to bring joy.”

Keep in mind the company that owns TikTok is ByteDance, a Chinese tech firm with headquarters in Beijing. Chew’s Chinese bosses love collecting and using data on us.

The company said they are willing to spend $1.5 billion to protect user data and ensure the info on customers doesn’t make it to Chinese officials. Oh yes, that should be really effective.

He will face members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee this week.

There is a bill that would call for the banning of TikTok and other apps that are owned by adversarial nations.
