What is Microdosing? 🍄

Microdosing involves taking very low doses of a mushroom or psychedelic drug to improve cognitive function, relieve pain, and aid various dis-eases.

Naturally occurring psychedelic substances such as psilocybin extract from magic mushrooms and mescaline have been used for their beneficial health effects for thousands of years.

If you take pro-biotics or pre-biotics with specific strains, you’ve technically been micro-dosing. 😜

According to MedicalNewsToday, evidence from mostly small observational studies suggests that microdosing psilocybin, the psychoactive ingredient in magic mushrooms, can improve cognitive function and alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.

A large study now shows that individuals who microdose psilocybin showed improved mood and a greater decline in anxiety, depression, and stress over a one-month period than those who did not microdose. These improvements in mental health and mood associated with microdosing psilocybin were also observed in individuals with mental health concerns.

A large study recently published in the journal Scientific Reports shows that microdosing psilocybin resulted in greater improvements in mental health and mood than in individuals who did NOT engage in microdosing.

The study’s co-author Joseph Rootman, a doctoral student at the University of British Columbia, said that the study was “the largest longitudinal study to date” on microdosing psilocybin and one of the few pieces of research to include a control group.

Whole Foods and other health stores offer mushrooms in pill form if you are interested in trying them.

The amount of the substance that is used is significantly below a hallucinogenic dose, and studies and proponents of the practice believe that microdosing produces many positive health effects.

These low doses are purported to enhance daily functioning while avoiding a dramatically altered state of consciousness (just like other prescription medications).

Cure Cancer with Mushrooms

Mycologist Paul Stamets has devoted his career to advancing our understanding of the healing potential of mushrooms.

His work hit home when his mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her sternum and liver.

Her oncologist told her she was too old for radiation therapy.

The doctor recommended a clinical trial of turkey tail mushrooms at the Bastyr Integrative Oncology Research Center — a study her son happened to be supplying through his mushroom cultivation business, Fungi Perfecti.

Stamets tells the story of his mother’s dramatic recovery in a TED MED talk (beginning at the 7:50 mark).

END THE STIGMA!

Remember when marijuana had a stigma? 🍁

While many Americans are hesitant about microdosing, it’s likely due to the fact that they don’t understand it because it’s not very mainstream (yet).

After all, statistics prove that most Americans don’t really care or understand the importance of maintaining a healthy body.

According to the CDC, 73% of Americans are overweight and by the year 2030, 60% of Americans will be obese. What does this tell us about society and health?

We are all humans who have been programmed by societal norms.

Like with everything else in life, people fear what they don’t know.

Would you try microdosing?
