From a GOBankingrates.com story that’s just trying to help you get a handle your financial game, Warren Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, provides some priceless tips.
Any of these work for you?
1. Find a nice, modest house.
Buffett’s Omaha, Neb., spread, purchased in 1958 for $31,500, is truly home.
“I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” he told CNBC earlier this year.
2. Start your day with a humble breakfast.
Buffett does not do the daily gourmet thing.
According to CNBC, he does the McDonald’s thing occasionally on his five-minute drive to work.
His friend Bill Gates — the Microsoft founder — wrote: “One thing that was surprising to learn about Warren is that he has basically stuck to eating what he liked when he was 6 years old.”
3. Find bargains on your vehicle purchases.
In a BBC documentary, Buffett’s daughter, Susie Buffett, said he bought cars that he could get at reduced prices.
“You’ve got to understand, he keeps cars until I tell him, ‘This is getting embarrassing — time for a new car,’” said his daughter in the documentary.
4. Stay clear of expensive hobbies.
Buffett’s hobbies are affordable, such as playing bridge.
“If I play bridge and a naked woman walks by, I don’t even see her,” laughed Buffett during a CBS News “Sunday Morning” interview. “I one time said that I wouldn’t mind going to jail if I had the right three cellmates so we can play bridge all the time.”
5. Treat friends with respect but don’t shower them with cash.
Again, here’s Gates on his blog: “Of all the things I’ve learned from Warren, the most important thing might be what friendship is all about. A person that I admire as well as like — that’s the perfect description of how I feel about Warren. Happy birthday, my friend.”
