Singing the national anthem at a sporting event is not an easy thing to do.

But should it really be as difficult as Benny Scholl made it when he took the mic and melted eardrums at Nascar’s Camping World Truck Series Race at Las Vegas?

Either Barry is one of the worst anthem singers ever documented, or he’s freaking brilliant, bringing attention to a race, and frankly a race series that most of the world never knew existed.

I’m going t go with a little bit of both. FS1 broadcasts this Nascar series but they did not carry the anthem live.

Thank goodness for Twitter.  The screaming version from Scholl made the cyber rounds very quickly.

There have been incredibly memorable performances of stars singing the national anthem that are chill-inducing.

Whitney Houston’s rendition at the Super Bowl in 1991 is at or near the top of the list.

Anyone that has heard Marvin’ Gaye’s incredible performance at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles will never forget it.

Benny, mission accomplished on people not getting your stirring performance out of their heads for a long time too.

Just for different reasons. Watch here around the :56 mark.
