The tensions with Russia have brought to the forefront the threat of nuclear war and how it would devastate civilization and end life as we know it for everyone on earth.

A new study says the ramifications would go far beyond the fact that millions of people would die from the nuclear explosions.  Rutgers University predicted in a report that 75% of the global population, roughly 5 billion people, would die of famine if there were a nuclear war between the U.S. and Russia.

Because of the two countries dropping nukes on each other, massive fires would erupt and send soot into the atmosphere. The residual effect is that sunlight would be blocked and limit food production.

The details are horrific; hopefully, somebody will read them to Vladimir Putin.

Here’s what the lead researcher told Nature.com.

“A large percent of the people will be starving. It’s really bad. The reduced light, global cooling and likely trade restrictions after nuclear wars would be a global catastrophe for food security.”

Any sane person with a functioning brain would conclude that a nuclear war must be prevented at all costs.

The study is eye-opening because there has never been one similar.  Nobody has tried calculating the number of deaths outside of the blasts that would occur in a nuclear war.

There are currently nine countries with more than 12,000 total nuclear warheads.
