If there’s anyone who thought they’d be hearing TB has decided that when his playing career is over, he would immediately step into the Fox Sports NFL announcing booth as the #1 analyst, congrats.  You’re either a genius, clairvoyant, or related to Brady.

Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch made the stunning announcement Tuesday during an investor call.  The seven-time Super Bowl champ quarterback will be calling the top Fox games with play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt.  He will also serve as an “ambassador” for Fox, focusing on “promotional initiatives.”

When will he turn in his helmet for a headset? It’s uncertain, as Brady has committed to play at least the upcoming season with Tampa Bay and maybe another season after.

He will take over the job that Troy Aikman had for over a dozen years before bailing to take a higher-paying gig with ESPN.  Maybe Fox had something in play with Brady months ago, and that was why they didn’t work harder on keeping Aikman.

Here’s what Murdoch said during the earnings call today.

“We are delighted that Tom has committed to joining the Fox team and wish him all the best during this upcoming season.”

The execs at Fox are not putting pressure on Brady to retire after this next season, though they certainly are hoping and praying he does.

Brady enters the upcoming season as the NFL all-time leader in career passing yards (84,520) and touchdown passes (624), and he’s coming off his best season ever with over 5,300 yards passing and 43 TD passes.
