It’s not quite as dramatic as a puff of white smoke at the Vatican signaling that a new Pope has been selected, but it’s close.

Elon Musk has been operating as the CEO of Twitter since he bought the joint last fall for $44 billion, and he announced on Thursday that he had found his replacement.

We just don’t know who it is. “Excited to announce that I’ve a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in – 6 weeks,” is how Musk announced it on Twitter.

For now, she’s nameless. Musk is probably milking this as long as he can, but the new CEO is slated to start in June. It’s not like he’s bailing on the blue bird; he will hold an executive position and oversee the big ventures and functions like product and software.

“My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops,” he tweeted.

This is probably not a random news item since several Tesla investors have been complaining that Musk was too distracted with Twitter and wanted him to get back to Austin to run one of his other 479 companies where he serves as CEO.

Of course when Musk talks or tweets, the markets notice, and his announcement on Thursday caused Tesla shares to spike over $2 on the news, meaning Wall Street was digging the information.

So far, no hot names have been thrown out or caught steam regarding who the mystery woman will be.  It’s sort of like wondering if Tom Cruise and Shakira are going to start dating officially, but a little more important.
