The Philadelphia Eagles certainly didn’t make any friends in New York on Sunday night. The Eagles’ loss to the Washington Football team ended the Giants season, while propelling Washington into the playoffs. It wasn’t just the Philly loss that had Giants’ players mad, though, it was the way they lost.

In the midst of a competitive game, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson unexpectedly benched quarterback Jalen Hurts. The move came with the Eagles trailing Washington 17-14 early in the fourth quarter. Pederson replaced Hurts with Nate Sudfeld, prompting Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton to post, “This is sickening” on Twitter.

Former Giants quarterback Eli Manning also chimed in after Giants running back Saquon Barkley tweeted, “Can someone make it make sense to me what’s going on….?” Manning replied, “This is why we don’t like the Eagles.”

Giants receiver Golden Tate also tweeted his thoughts on the Eagles’ 20-14 loss to Washington. “I think the eagles just hate us more than Washington. That’s the only thing that could make sense right?”

Sunday Night Football commentators Chris Collinsworth and Al Micheals didn’t seem to be too fond of the Eagles move either, with Collinsworth saying from the broadcast booth, “Al, I couldn’t have done it. I couldn’t have done what Philadelphia did. I simply just could not have done it. You’ve got men out there that are fighting their guts out trying to win the game. And I’m not saying, I’m not blaming anybody. I, personally, could not have done what they did.”

Despite all the backlash towards Philly, the Giants don’t have anyone to blame but themselves. A Washington loss would have sent the six-win Giants into the playoffs, where they would have become the first team in NFL history to make the postseason with a 6-10 record.

The Eagles loss didn’t just hurt the Giants though, it also helped Philly’s draft position. A victory would have dropped the Eagles down to the No. 9 slot in the upcoming draft, while the loss secured the sixth overall selection for Philadelphia. The Giants will be picking eleventh.
