Some interesting laws will take effect in Florida proving it to truly be the land of the free.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had a busy legislative session as he was gearing up his run for president. Over 300 bills were passed in a single legislative session alone. There are a number of key laws that will go into effect on Saturday, as the Sun Sentinel reports.

One bill actually allows more families to get school vouchers funded by tax-payer dollars. Before, there’d be a strict limit to those with struggling parents getting access. Now, there’s no income restriction. Vouchers are used when parents are fed up with public schools and want to enroll their kid in a charter or religious school, allowing their kid to get less of a government-narrated education. It will spark an educational gamechanger as charter schools take center stage.

HB3 bans government investment from all this “ESG”. That’s short term for the UN coined “environmental, social and governance” score, that’s used to see if corporations are being sufficiently woke.

$200 million will be used for a mass parks and outdoor expansion. Expect south Florida to boom in trail options within the next few months, as it aims to get some of its developed-over nature back.

And DeSantis, perhaps looking ahead to 2024, did his best to reign in China. A new bill will make it illegal for Chinese citizens to purchase Florida property. Another bill prevents online companies from harvesting users personal data, while another bans TikTok on school internet and computers. Three key bills that may deter China from trying to get involved further with Florida.

HB543 is a big one. That will allow Floridians to carry guns without a concealed weapons license.

And finally, another key bill prohibits any investment from colleges on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs or DEI.

Clearly, a tide is changing in Florida, after DeSantis has been feverishly pitching himself as the right leaning alternative to former President Donald Trump. Will it work? Time will tell, but he’ll have a lot of key, new policies to point to in his quixotic quest for the GOP nomination.
