Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly commented on swirling rumors about his true height and his unique choice of footwear last week, mocking the “foot fetishes” that are distracting from the important issue. This rebuke was accompanied by an attack on Donald Trump challenging the former president’s testicular fortitude ahead of the third Republican primary debate.

Speaking with Newsmax’s Eric Bolling on Thursday night, the Florida Governor, who is currently tied for second in the GOP primary race, was asked about resurfacing claims that the boots he wears almost everywhere are actually a secret method of making himself look taller. While this talking point has been raised by DeSantis critics in the past, his recent appearance on the PBD Podcast with Patrick Bet-David has reignited the discussion like never before.

“There are these gotcha people, these people who just want to sit there and they want to talk about how tall you are, whether you’re wearing boots with…heel extenders inside,” Bolling said. “I mean, Governor, the southern border is a disaster, terrorists are coming across the border. We’ve got two wars that we’re kind of funding, and they want to talk about how tall you are. Respond please.”

“Look Eric, this is no time for foot fetishes,” DeSantis replied. “We’ve got serious problems as a country, we’ve got war in the Middle East, we’ve got terrorists coming across our own southern border, we have an American dream that’s out of reach for millions of Americans because of the Bidenflation and the high energy prices. We’ve got schools that are indoctrinating kids and not educating kids, and we’ve got cities that are being overrun by crime.”

“I know people want to try to divert on to other issues,” he continued. “I know Donald Trump and a lot of his people have been focusing on things like footwear. I’ll tell you this, if Donald Trump can summon the balls to show up to the debate, I’ll wear a boot on my head.”

Former President Trump, who boasts a double-digit lead over the other presidential candidates, notably declined to attend the first two primary debates in August and September. He also announced that he will not be attending the upcoming debate in Miami, Florida on November 8, instead hosting a rally in nearby Hialeah.

Deprived of the chance to confront his main rival onstage in his own home state, DeSantis touted his record of success as Florida’s governor. Ultimately, he argued, the “substance” of a candidate is what matters most, referencing his ability to fight and win on behalf of the people of the United States.

DeSantis’ challenge was accompanied by a full-court press by his campaign team, mocking Trump as an emasculated coward and even creating a promotional item to double down on the joke.

“Ron DeSantis has a pair,” declares the packaging on a set of custom golf balls bearing the governor’s name and logo. “He shows up.”

The product listing for the golf balls, available for purchase via a fundraising website, continues by stating, “If Trump had a pair, he’d show up in Miami to debate the real issues facing Americans.”

The third Republican primary debate will be held in Miami, Florida, on November 8.
