Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has launched his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination with backing from 14 percent of Biden’s 2020 voter base.
Some mainstream news outlets have already ignited their familiar smear-job machines with statements regarding Kennedy’s popularity straight out of the gates as “surprising for a candidate who has a famous political name but is now known mostly as the champion of a debunked conspiracy theory blaming childhood vaccines for autism.”
RFK Jr. is a prominent advocate for those who have been on the receiving end of the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) which has paid over $4 billion of taxpayer dollars to individuals harmed by immunizations. Most notably, the family of Hannah Poling was court-awarded roughly $20 million for her lifetime care as evidence showed her autism was triggered by the Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kennedy built a following through his opposition of vaccine mandates, citing them as violations of individual liberty.
According to a recent survey, only 67 percent of Biden’s supporters from 2022 will back him for the Democratic nomination over his existing contenders. Kennedy is positioned at 14 percent while author Marianne Williamson, a candidate from 2020 is at five percent. Another 13 percent remain undecided. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
While none have emerged thus far, the results highlight Biden’s potential vulnerability to a more mainstream Democratic opponent, or to a third-party candidate in the general election.
