The answer is yes for anyone wondering if attacks on comedians would be more prevalent thanks to Will Smith’s unhinged reaction at the Oscars when he violently slapped Chris Rock.

It happened again Wednesday night to Dave Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and was even more frightening than what Smith did when he assaulted Rock.

Chappelle was performing at the “Netflix Is A Joke” festival when a man in the audience got on stage with a toy gun that had a knife attached to it no less and tackled and slammed Chappelle to the ground.

According to reports, the man, 23-year-old Isaiah Lee, pointed that guy at the comedian before rushing him. After attacking Chappelle, the man reportedly ran around the screen on the backside of the stage before he was caught by a mob of security, fellow comedians, and onlookers who surrounded him and pummeled him before the cops could whisk him away.  TMZ reported that Jamie Foxx and Busta Rhymes helped give Lee the beatdown.

Chappelle was not injured, but Lee was and taken to the hospital. He’s been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

Ironically, one of Chappelle’s special guests at the show was Chris Rock, who walked onstage after his buddy was attacked and said, “Was that Will Smith?”

Chappelle regained composure quickly and finished his set.
