If you’re thinking of packing up and moving down to sunny Florida to spend your golden years, you may want to reconsider. Florida is no longer the hot spot destination for retirees. This year it’s Pennsylvania.

Every year U.S. News & World Report issues a list of the best places to retire. Usually, on that list cities in Florida dominate. The 2022-2023 list shows Pennsylvania has dethroned the state of Florida. The number one city to retire is Lancaster, Pennsylvania followed by Harrisburg.

The 10 Best Places to Retire in the U.S. in 2022-2023:

  1. Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
  2. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
  3. Pensacola, Florida.
  4. Tampa, Florida.
  5. York, Pennsylvania.
  6. Naples, Florida.
  7. Daytona Beach, Florida.
  8. Ann Arbor, Michigan.
  9. Allentown, Pennsylvania.
  10. Reading, Pennsylvania.

We could all speculate on a few reasons why Pennsylvania is not the best place to live. Most recently, Hurricane Ian sweeping through areas dominated by retirees could be a speculation. Reports are showing retirees simply don’t want to go broke.

The nationwide survey found retirees were concerned about housing affordability, happiness, health care quality, taxes and desirability. According to Fox Business, happiness topped the list of concerns. This year, housing affordability is the main priority. Dividends Diversify has made a top ten list of the Pros and Cons of living in the state. According to the site’s list, there’s a low cost of living and plenty to do. Other pros include good health care and education.  With the good comes some bad. You may not experience a major hurricane, but you will have some harsh winter weather. Road conditions are also not the best. Potholes, tolls and the Philly Road rage can be a bit much if you’re not used to it.

Maybe you’re still set on moving to Florida. Go ahead, the best way of knowing something is through experience.  A last thought to leave you with.  According to Livingcost.org, the monthly cost of living is $2,066. The monthly cost of living in Pennsylvania is $2,117.
