Keeping a verified status on Twitter will now cost a monthly fee of $20. Maybe inflation is to blame, but whatever the reason Elon Musk first hinted at the change on Sunday via Twitter, of course. Sunday, he tweeted the verification process was being revamped. Now, the question is how will the new system work?

Reports say, users already verified will have 90 days to sign up for the upgraded Twitter Blue subscription or they will lose their blue badge. That 90-day countdown will start soon. Apparently, the new owner of Twitter wants the new subscription up and running by November 7th. Reports say the team responsible for revamping the Twitter subscription have been given the November 7th deadline to have it done or dust off your resume. Yes, they could be fired in the next coming days.

For now, there is no way of knowing how this will impact verified accounts of government institutions, political leaders, companies, or journalists. Another question to consider, does this mean regardless of your number of followers you could pay to be verified? Let’s be honest, whether you like him or not, the world’s richest person is a trendsetter. Does this mean all major social media platforms will follow his lead, also creating a way to charge for verification?  The answers to these questions are still unknown, and we probably want know before the official rollout.

Musk has been able to answer some questions. Many were wondering will former president Donald Trump and others be invited back to Twitter. He tweeted he is putting together a moderation council with “diverse viewpoints” that will make decisions on lifting the ban on accounts on a case-by-case basis. If you’ve been on twitter lately looking for small changes, the homepage layout has also been changed. You can see an explore page if you’re not logged in. So there you have it, a changed homepage, $20 verification subscription and some users could eventually rejoin the platform. We’ll be watching for what’s next.
