The longer the war between Russia and Ukraine drags on, the more likely it is that it will escalate, take a horrible situation, and make it much worse.

Reuters reported that Russia’s Defense Ministry has been preparing its soldiers to work in conditions of radioactive contamination. Why? Because the Kremlin believes Ukraine will detonate a dirty bomb.

Leaders of Ukraine have denied that claim, and with Russia, it could be their way of justifying an equal or worse attack by saying they had to strike first.

Vladimir Putin has been very vocal that he will defend what he calls Russia’s “territorial integrity” with nuclear weapons if he has to. This report doesn’t bring security to people around the world who are hoping for a more peaceful resolution.

A dirty bomb is a conventional bomb that is packed with radioactive material. The aim is to spread contamination over a wide swath of land.

Comments by Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Russia’s nuclear, biological and chemical protection chief, are being dissected and analyzed by governments worldwide. He told Russian media that Ukraine could potentially use a dirty bomb to blame the ensuing radioactive e contamination on Russia. Saying they used a low-grade nuclear weapon.

Here’s a direct quote from Kirillov.

“The aim of the provocation would be to accuse Russia of using a weapon of mass destruction in the Ukrainian military theatre and by that means to launch a powerful anti-Russian campaign in the world, aimed at undermining trust in Moscow.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky articulated what most people believe; that Russia’s accusation means they are planning a similar attack on their neighboring country.
