In this 3 part series we discuss Leadership. The word LEADERSHIP has become a very common word in business, athletics, church, and in the home as parents. I want to start by taking you through a short journey on how and why I feel this may be one of the most important abilities and skills for not only adults but our younger generation to develop as well.

The world needs more courageous, skilled, God-fearing Leaders and it is no more evident than now. The world needs you! Let’s start with how do you define leadership? I imagine that if I asked 100 people that question I would get close to 100 different answers. That’s a problem.  That was also one of the problems in our organization. If we don’t have a common way to define leadership we will never be able to truly captivate our full ability to lead as a Christ-Centered community. My simplest and shortest definition of leadership is–INFLUENCE. We can use our leadership to influence others positively or negatively.

Now to the start of the journey…I was the head baseball coach at my previous school for a decade and an assistant coach for varsity baseball, football, and basketball for five years before that. One of the common themes I noticed was when we had good years we would often say “Great Senior group…good leadership.”  When we had seasons in which we underperformed or underachieved I would often hear and use something along the lines of- “Senior leadership was lacking with this team.” These reasons and statements were true but still didn’t sit well with me. However, when I became head coach of my baseball program I still found myself falling into patterns using the same reasoning for successful and underperforming seasons. Be Courageous. Be the leader God has created you to be.  Until next time…Keep growing…Keep Learning…Keep Leading.
