Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. economy was humming along with an unemployment rate at a 50-year low of 3.5%. Wages were rising, jobs were being created and consumer confidence was positive. The New York Post is harkening back to those times as their reason for endorsing Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
The Post also cited the fact that a “Joe Biden administration would be beholden to a socialist left that sees an opportunity to remake the nation in its vision, one more dependent on government debt,” as a reason for endorsing Trump for re-election.
It’s been clear for months now that Biden has focused on the coronavirus as one of his top election talking points. He has said that he is open to national mask mandates and would also consider triggering a new wave of lockdowns.
The Post said that while Trump has been heavily criticized, he actually deserves credit for the way he handled the virus: “Today, those who are infected with the coronavirus survive at much higher rates. We are likely to have a vaccine in the coming months, far earlier than many experts thought possible. The media don’t want to admit it, but that’s all thanks to the ‘warp speed’ policy instituted by the White House.”
The New York Post went on to talk about Biden being a figurehead for the Democratic Party and questioned the fact that Biden “rarely takes questions, sticks to his stump speeches, puts a lid on the day at the late hour of 9 a.m.”
The Post ended its endorsement of Trump by stating, “President Trump will not be looking to remake the country. He will trust that America will, given support but not interference, bounce back. He will, in short, not get in the way. Re-electing him is the best choice for the United States.”
The Post then added one final zinger aimed at Tinseltown: “Plus, it’ll really tick off Hollywood.”
