New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is suing counties, and by proxy parents, over requiring teachers to inform them should their students want to be called a different gender pronoun, or choose to use a bathroom that doesn’t correspond with their gender.

Murphy’s government is suing the board of educations in three countries that adopted these parental alert policies. The school board was elected by the people, making this a direct attack on their desires and essentially stripping these New Jerseyans of their vote.

The suit came after the school boards of all three counties adopted the new parent informant rule in mid June. Just a day later, the Attorney General of the state announced his intentions to see them in court. He declared this to be an “emergency lawsuit.”

However, parents won’t be going down without a fight. A Middletown parent told Fox News, “Maybe the state’s going to force Middletown to reverse the policies, but you’re talking about multi-million-dollar lawsuits coming down the road if it does because I’m suing everybody and there’s going to be class action lawsuits.”

But Attorney General Matt Platkin fought back saying, “In New Jersey, we will not tolerate any action by schools that threatens the health and safety of our young people. Without question, the discriminatory policies passed by these Boards of Education, if allowed to go into effect, will harm our kids and pose severe risk to their safety.”

Platkin makes an interesting point. Does it infringe on civil liberties for reporting kids wanting to be addressed by a different gender identity? What if they have an intolerant parent at home? What if it results in abuse or rejection?

Of course, the flip side of the argument take note of all the parental permissions needed, even for a minor field trip, for example.

“I get a phone call if my kid is absent. I have to sign permission slips for everything, whether it be medicine or whether it be field trips or a syllabus,” a parent opposed to the AG’s actions told Fox News.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the future with this lawsuit. It truly is the first of it’s kind on a state government’s part. Should it go through without any objection, it will certainly serve as a blueprint for far-left governors nationwide.
