Did you ever wonder how Volodymyr Zelensky rose to fame in Ukraine to become President with absolutely no political experience?

He played a President on TV.  The leader of Ukraine, who has been valiant and an inspiration to millions throughout Russia’s invasion of his country, is an actor and starred in a 2014 satirical comedy called “Servant of the People.”  In the show, Zelensky played a school teacher who unexpectedly became president after a video of him complaining about political corruption went viral.

Netflix is looking to capitalize on Zelensky’s appeal and popularity, so they are re-releasing the program in the US to be available for streaming now.

The show ran three seasons and wrapped up because Zelensky decided in 2019 to run for President in real life.  The rest is history.

A Swedish television group called Echo Rights licensed the show around the world. Hers’ what managing partner Nicola Soderlund said in a statement to Hollywood Reporter.

“The series is a comedy but also an important document of where Zelensky comes from.  His fictional president is a normal man who grows into his role as a heroic and adored leader. While the real-world scenario facing Zelensky and the Ukrainian people is far more grim and appalling than the comedy of the series, there are obvious parallels with the real-world situation, and ‘Servant of the People’ is a fascinating, important and historic piece of television.”
