Don Lemon has something in common with Tucker Carlson.  Not popularity or a successful show — they were both fired the same day.  April 24, 2023.  Oh, there’s one other thing they might have very much in common too.

Carlson made headlines this week when he announced he would resume his daily news show on Twitter. The move was stunning, and the primary focus was on Carlson’s decision, but behind the curtain, the man pulling the strings was Elon Musk, and don’t for a second think Twitter’s owner will be one and done with Carlson.

It’s a brilliant move. Many network news stars are going to be hesitant to get chummy with Musk while they work for a traditional network, but once they are cut loose and have some freedom, Musk is offering a welcome sign.  He delivered one directly to Lemon a day after the Carlson announcement.

“Have you considered doing your show on this platform? Maybe worth a try. Audience is much bigger.” Very subtle, to the point, and powerful. He offered a progressive liberal influencer an opportunity the day after bringing the most influential conservative voice aboard.

It feels like a shift is coming.  It doesn’t mean that talking head, nightly cable news talk is on the verge of dying, but wouldn’t that be awesome if it were?
