In the span of a few hours and several bad decisions, Henry Ruggs III went from being a potential NFL star into someone facing 20+ years in prison after being involved in a car accident early Tuesday morning that killed a 23-year old woman in Las Vegas.

Vegas police booked Ruggs into jail Tuesday afternoon, and started sharing details about what happened around 3:39 AM Tuesday.  The cops say Ruggs was impaired, and traveling at “a high rate of speed” before he slammed into the back of a Toyota Rav 4, bursting it into flames and killing the young woman and her dog.

Kiara Washington, the girlfriend of Ruggs was seriously injured in the wreck.

Ruggs is sitting in jail after being booked with two felonies.  The charge of DUI with serious bodily harm carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, while the charge of reckless driving with death or serious bodily harm could daw a sentence of 1-6 more years.

Late on Tuesday the Las Vegas Raiders released Ruggs, who was the 12th player taken in the 2020 NFL draft.

The NFL released a statement that said in part; “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim of this horrific tragedy.”

Ruggs has a couple attorneys, and they released a statement of, saying they are conducting their own investigation.

It’s a total tragedy all the way around, as a young woman has lost her life and a promising young football player threw his life away by making a series of horrible decisions.
