UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a comment Wednesday during a visit to a hospital that accomplished two things.

  1. It made logical sense.
  2. Assured that he will ruffle the feathers of many people who do not see an issue with this new trend.

Johnson spoke to the media in Hertfordshire Wednesday and was pressed by reporters on the topic of a biological male in Britain who is attempting to compete in a cycling race as a woman.

“I don’t think that biological males should be competing in female sporting events. And maybe that’s a controversial thing … but it just seems to me to be sensible.”

Johnson addressed the issue because a few days earlier, transgender athlete Emily Bridges claimed the media had “harassed and demonized” her after the world cycling’s governing body said she could not compete at the National Omnium Championships this weekend.

Bridges was born a biological male. She was hoping to compete against females.

American swimmer Lia Thomas has created a firestorm this year.  Thomas is a biological male and a swimmer at The University of Pennsylvania who dominated events she competed in this year until the NCAA championships when she was defeated.  Her presence as a female competitor has angered most of the female competitors she’s faced, including Riley Gaines of Kentucky, who tied for Thomas for fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle at the NCAA championships.

Gaines is one of the few female athletes to speak out. Here’s what she told Fox News.

“I know just talking to tons and tons of NCAA swimmers that their athletic directors, their media people, and their coaches or other outside influencers have told them, ‘don’t say anything, just avoid the situation, save face a little bit.’”

“But just speaking for them, it’s just totally wrong. I know I can’t speak for everyone but I’m almost certain that I’m speaking for a large majority of female athletes, and this is just not okay. And it’s not fair. We’re dealing with something that’s completely out of our control when we’re racing, biological males whether they have different lung capacities, their height, testosterone levels whether they’ve used testosterone blockers are not.”
