For anyone capable of living in what amounts to be about the size of a walk-in closet for an entire year, there’s one heck of a great deal that is out there for residents of Tokyo.
Ikea, the Swedish retailer famous for having furniture that comes along with a 200 page manual on how to assemble it, is putting up for rent a 10-square meter apartment in the Shinjuku District of the Japanese metropolis.
10-square meters is 107-square feet; that’s tiny, and so is the monthly rent cost. 86 cents. Yeah, you read that correctly; it will cost a little over $10 bucks to live in this tiny space for an entire year.
There are only one of these units available, and it comes fully furnished with Ikea furniture.
Here’s what Ikea said on their website about the tiny little rental.
“One of the keys is to make good use of the vertical space. By capturing the room three-dimensionally, new possibilities open up in a limited space.”
Tokyo has a population of over 14 million people and is the most populous urban area in the entire world, so there’s a push for miro-living. Ikea is using this opportunity to showcase how their furniture works with this new trend of smaller spaces.
Oh, about the utilities for the tiny home. Sorry, but the resident will have to pay for those themselves.
