Here’s something you could file away as another thing you’d never expect to see in 2020: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi accusing someone at CNN of being a “Republican apologist.”

Wolf Blitzer was the CNN anchor with whom she was annoyed on Tuesday, and they squared off in a back-and-forth that, if nothing else, made for great TV.

Wolf asked Pelosi a fairly innocuous question about why she won’t sign President Trump’s stimulus proposal that would put much-needed money into Americans’ bank accounts. That’s when things got heated.

“I hope you’ll ask the same question of the Republicans on why they don’t want to meet the needs of the American people,” Pelosi responded to Blitzer. “But let me say to those people, because all of my colleagues — we represent these people … and their needs are not addressed in the president’s proposal. So when you say to me, ‘Why don’t you accept theirs?’ Why don’t they accept ours?”

Blitzer didn’t hold back, telling Pelosi that Americans “really need the money now” and quoting a Democratic representative from California who had also pleaded for his party to sign a stimulus deal. Then Blitzer pushed Pelosi, asking her, “Why not work out a deal with him (Trump) and don’t let the perfect, as they say here in Washington, be the enemy of the good?”

“Well, I will not let the wrong be the enemy of the right,” Pelosi fired back, which is actually a pretty good comeback in a live interview situation. The two continued to go back and forth, and it was heated all the way until the very end of the interview. Blitzer tried to end it after Pelosi accused the CNN anchor of “defending the administration all this time.”
