Former Vice President Mike Pence has been subpoenaed by the Department of Justice’s special counsel to testify in a criminal investigation of former President Donald Trump. This subpoena is related to the January 6 investigation as well as a separate inquiry into the classified documents found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida.

The subpoena comes after months of negotiations between Pence’s legal team and federal prosecutors, however, the Justice Department declined to comment on the matter. Special Counsel Jack Smith was appointed last November by Attorney General Merrick Garland to oversee the January 6 investigation, and Smith is now looking into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents after leaving office.

The FBI is currently conducting a search of former Vice President Mike Pence’s home in Indiana. It is not clear what information Smith is expecting to receive from Pence, but this move proves to be seen a s a major escalation of Smith’s probe towards Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

According to Fox News, when asked to comment on the investigation held against him, Trump responded with no interest to partake in any of it, saying “I have been going through this for six years — for six years I have been going through this, and I am not going to go through it anymore,” and “I hope the Republicans have the courage to fight this.”

A spokesperson for Pence has yet to comment – neither has the special counsel’s office. As the story continues to develop, so will the juicy details.
