Brace yourself; you’re about to be exposed to something that seems like it hasn’t happened much regarding the economy and soaring prices on anything and everything you buy and use; airline prices are going to decrease big time this fall.

In fact, they should be down about 40% from the ridiculously high peak summer prices so many people had to contend with.

August usually brings a drastic slow down in air travel, so airlines will lower prices this time of the year to help boost bookings in the fall.

According to data from Hopper, domestic ticket prices in September and October should cost roughly $238 on average for a round-trip fare.  That’s down $142 from June and July and is also a shade lower than what prices were sitting at before the Covid lockdowns.

There is a caveat, though – book the tickets by mid-August because the generosity from the airlines is not going to last forever.

Another tip is to make sure you book a trip 3-6 weeks before depart because fares soar if you wait too long.

For people on the East Coast jonesing for some sunshine, there are excellent rates to Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and San Diego.

For people planning on flying internationally, those prices are set to plunge by almost 20%.
