General Motors is recalling some Chevrolet Silverado medium-duty trucks, following potential leaks in brake fluid that can result in a fire. These models include the 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models between the 2019 and 2023 model years.

The vehicles may have a brake pressure sensor assembly that allows brake fluid to leak and cause a short circuit. This can cause an increased fire risk, possibly occurring when the truck is driving or is parked.

According to documents released on Saturday by the U.S. Department of Transportation, “Dealers will replace the master cylinder pressure sensor and inspect the wire harness, replacing it, if necessary, free of charge.” Approximately 40,428 vehicles were recorded for recall by April 14 when the manufacturer issued the report.

GM also suggests owners park their potentially affected models outside and away from any structures until the recap repair is done.

Models prior to 2019 would not be affected due to a different design used throughout manufacturing.

The statement further reads, “Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed May 29, 2023. Second letters will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM’s number for this recall is N222375270.”

According to an article released by All-American Made, most Chevy vehicles are made in the United States. GM, which owns the Chevrolet company, employs over 32,000 workers at its 11 manufacturing plants in the United States.

Some of the main locations where they make Chevy vehicles in the US include:

  • Flint, Michigan
  • Arlington, Texas
  • Roanoke, Indiana
  • Wentzville, Missouri
  • Lansing, Michigan
  • Bowling Green, Kentucky
  • Detroit, Michigan
  • Spring Hill, Tennessee
  • Kansas City, Kansas
  • Lake Orion, Michigan

As of now, no recent injuries have been reported.
