It took a long time, but the man authorities believe is responsible for the sick and gruesome murders of four young college students in Idaho is finally in custody.

A team of FBI and local police in Pennsylvania swarmed the home where Bryan Christopher Kohberger was staying, and they have charged this 28-year-old with four counts of murder and felony burglary. They believe they can prove he stabbed to death Kaylee Conclaves, Madison Rogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle.

Here is what the Moscow, Idaho Police Chief James Fry told reporters Friday.

“These murders have shaken our community, and no arrest will ever bring back these young students. What I can tell you is we have an individual in custody who committed these horrible crimes, and I do believe our community is safe.”

The suspect is a Ph.D. student at the department of criminal justice and criminology at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. Pullman is just eight miles from the site of the murders.

He picked ups a diploma in Criminal Justice in May of this year. He had no prior criminal record.

Why did he do it? What was his connection to the victim? Did he have help?

We’ll have to wait for answers to those questions. It was reported that when apprehended, he asked if anyone else had been arrested.

Thousands of leads had been called in, and police focused on a white Hyundai Elantra spotted near the crime scene.  NBC reported that a white vehicle similar to that was at the spot Kohberger was arrested.

There’s a lot more work to be done. The weapon has not been found yet, and cops are urging the public to keep sending in tipis if they have them.

Authorities ask anyone with information about the incident to call 208-883-7180 or tipline@ci.moscow.id.us.
