Kirk Cameron is probably best known for his time playing Mike Seaver on “Growing Pains” and spending plenty of time with his sister Carol. Nowadays in real life, Cameron is spending his California lockdown time caroling.
Around 100 people gathered in Southern California on Tuesday night, without masks or being socially distanced to sing Christmas carols. The group was organized by Cameron as a peaceful protest.
Cameron organized the event to protest California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s latest stay-at-home order. The event was promoted on social media and took place in a parking lot in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
“Have you ever sung Christmas carols by candlelight at a time where your state governor has prohibited you from doing that in America?” Kirk said in an Instagram video posted on Dec. 11. “If you love God, if you love Christmas and you love liberty, you’re not gonna want to miss this.”
In an interview this past week on Fox News, Cameron defended his controversial caroling, saying, “This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, and there are thousands and thousands of people in our community who would rather not suffer in isolation and come out to sing and express their gratitude,” Cameron told Fox News host Shannon Bream in a clip shared to his Instagram Dec. 18. “We believe that there is immunity in community, but there is desolation in isolation, and I want to give people hope.”
Sheriff’s deputies briefly responded to one of the caroling events, which critics called a “super-spreader” event but there were no arrests or citations. So for now, Kirk can carol on!
