A teacher in the United Kingdom was fired after having to apologize to a group of 11-year-old students for saying, “good afternoon, girls.” The students who attend a private school which is overseen by the prominent Girls’ Day School Trust were allegedly disgruntled after the teacher inadvertently misgendered them at the beginning of a lesson.

A few of the pupils said “not everyone here identifies as female” to the teacher as others later penned their pronouns on the classroom board.

The teacher, who communicated under the condition of anonymity, said that the occurrence was “humiliating and embarrassing.”

According to the teacher, some students organized a protest during lunchtime, and constructed placards emblazoned with “Trans lives matter.”

“Before the end of the week I was in some sort of disciplinary process and the head of year was telling me I had to apologize to the girls,” she told the Daily Mail.

Following her apology to the students, the teacher stated that her application to renew her contract at the school was denied.

The Girls’ Day School Trust did not reply after a request for comment.
